About Us

Our Mission

Born Again Pit Bull Rescue (BAPBR) partners with overcrowded shelters to create room for more dogs in need by matching good dogs to the families that desire them. We educate the community about the importance of giving equal treatment and opportunity for all dogs, regardless of physical appearance. We strive to instill responsible pet guardianship amongst all dog owners in the community.

Who We Are

BAPBR is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, no-kill organization dedicated to creating a better future for pit bull terrier type dogs in Portland, Oregon. We are passionate about helping repair the reputation of this breed as the “family dog” through responsible ownership, while working to educate the public to stop their abuse, over-breeding, and neglect.

We are funded solely, and supported by, the generosity of individuals and corporations in our community.  All of our dogs are located in approved foster homes around the Portland metro area.  BAPBR is not a shelter and does not have set hours of operation.

Our Beginning

BAPBR was founded by Angela Adams in 2007.  Angela first fell in love with “pit bull terrier” type dogs when her friend brought home a puppy named Jasmine. Naturally inquisitive, Angela began her research to learn more about the breed. Through that research, Angela learned about the undeserved negative media image that follows the breed.  Knowing from first-hand experience what an amazing bunch of dogs they are, she continued to become involved in educating herself and eventually began working towards “pit bull” advocacy.  The statistic that changed her life, “Pit Bulls and Pit Bull mixes average about 33% of shelter intakes nationally, but in large cities the numbers are as high as 40%-65%.”  BAPBR was founded to address that eye-opening statistic.

What We Do

We have created a foster home network that allows us to place our dogs into a temporary home environment while they await their “forever home”, increasing crucial kennel space for the never-ending line of dogs in need.   We are always recruiting to expand our foster home network.

We strive to educate the community about the importance of treating all dogs as individuals eliminating prejudices created through misinformation and sensationalized stories in the media.

We combat pet overpopulation and fight breed discriminatory legislation.

We advocate responsible pet guardianship amongst all dog owners in the community, recognizing that it is the only way we will attain equality and compassion for all dogs.

We are passionate about setting our adoptees and their new guardians up for success from step one: by carefully matching you with the right companion for your lifestyle and family.  We then provide ongoing support after adoption through education, training opportunities, and advocacy.

How You Can Help

We receive no government funding and rely heavily on tax-deductible contributions from private donors to continue our life-saving mission. Please join us by recommending us to your friends, becoming a foster home or just by taking the time to browse our website and learn.  Whether you donate, volunteer, use our services, attend our events, or shop our on-line store, your contribution is crucial to our success.  We only get a few chances in life to truly make a difference, this can be yours.
